Thomas Frank has joined Tottenham as their new head coach, signing a contract until 2028.

Frank joins from fellow Premier League side Brentford after seven years with the west Londoners, where he secured promotion to the top flight and four subsequent seasons in England’s top division, including a tenth place finish in 2024/25.

The Dane has signed a contract until the end of the 2027/28 season, after Spurs decided to part company with previous head coach Ange Postecoglou, just 16 days after winning them the Europa League. Despite European glory, Tottenham finished in 17th place in the league after losing 22 matches during the campaign.

In a statement from Tottenham, it says:

“We are delighted to announce the appointment of Thomas Frank as our new Head Coach on a contract that runs until 2028.

“Thomas has extensive experience in English football having joined Brentford in 2016 – since becoming one of the longest-serving current managers in the Premier League. During his time at Brentford he transformed the Club, moving them up from the Championship to an established Premier League side, consistently and significantly outperforming expectations for an extended period of time.

“In Thomas we are appointing one of the most progressive and innovative head coaches within the game. He has a proven track record in player and squad development and we look forward to him leading the team as we prepare for the season ahead.”

In regards to the news of Frank’s departure, Brentford director of football Phil Giles said: “It has been a pleasure working alongside Thomas.

“From the moment he replaced Dean Smith, he understood what we were trying to build and his wisdom, coaching ability and emotional intelligence have helped transform the club.

“There have been so many special moments with Thomas and nobody will ever forget the day at Wembley for the play-off final or that emotional first Premier League game against Arsenal.

“But it’s not just what you see on the pitch. He forged a special connection with our fans, helped develop and improve players, and was instrumental in implementing the culture that has seen Brentford go from strength to strength.

“However, just as when a player leaves, it provides an opportunity for someone else to come in and make their own impact.

“We will never forget Thomas, but now it is time to thank him and take the next steps in our journey with a new leader who we believe can be just as successful and influential.”

Frank’s first official game in charge of Tottenham will be against Champions League winners Paris Saint Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on August 13.
