The result inevitably sparked mayhem on social media, with the club’s official accounts leading the charge to gloat about the ‘statement’ victory.

Their ‘this team’ post even triggered a snippy response from Erling Braut Haaland’s dad. To be fair to Roy Keane’s best mate, he had a point.

Overtake Liverpool – then you can gloat

Arsenal players were caught up in the moment of their impressive performance yesterday, but their gloating could come back to haunt them.

Gabriel Magalhaes took great delight in giving grief to Haaland, while Myles Lewis-Skelly’s mockery of his goal celebration took things to another level.

Arsenal’s social media team laid it on thick after the game, posting endless hyperbolic nonsense about making a ‘statement’ and so on.

However, this result will count for nothing if the Gunners fail to overhaul Liverpool in this season’s title race.

Winning the title from six points behind and having played a game more would be a real ‘statement’. Only then can ‘this team‘ gloat.
