Liverpool are in the process of rejuvenating their squad following the 2024/25 Premier League title win. We’ve seen big-name arrivals in the shape of Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez.

And Giorgi Mamardashvili arrives following the completion of his loan deal at Valencia. The Georgian goalkeeper was signed on a permanent contract last summer with the Reds paying an initial fee of around £29m.

The 24-year-old stayed at Valencia for an extra season and now moves to Merseyside to compete with Alisson Becker. Liverpool will therefore be heading into the season with a well-stocked goalkeeping department.

Given the scale of the outlay, Mamardashvili has not come to Anfield in order to sit on the bench. His signing has led to speculation over what might be to come for Alisson.

Alisson future under threat from Mamardashvili

The 32-year-old remains one of the world’s best on his day - but missed a lot of football last season through injury.

Under contract until 2027 - and earning less than only Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah - it had previously been suggested that the Reds might be open to offers for the Brazil No1.

Very few clubs could afford both the transfer fee and wages for the shot-stopper - but the latest reports indicate that there have been attempts to coax Alisson out of Liverpool.

In fact, Nicolo Schira has stated on X that Alisson has rejected TWO offers in the last few weeks to move on.

Galatasaray and Saudi Arabian clubs bid for Alisson

Galatasaray have been linked heavily with Alisson over the last few months. And going back to last summer it was reported that the goalkeeper had offers in Saudi Arabia.

Those links haven’t gone away, with Schira now confirming that Gala and teams in Saudi Arabia have been unsuccessful in their attempts to land Alisson recently.

Alisson turns down Galatasaray and Saudi Arabia moves

“Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson has turned down two very rich bids from Galatasaray and Saudi Club in the last weeks,” he wrote.

That suggests that Alisson is in no mood to give up his starting place to Mamardashvili and intends to see out his deal at Liverpool.

The two-time Premier League title winner appears to have an ambition to finish his playing days back at home in Brazil with Internacional. That move could transpire at the end of his current Liverpool contract.

First he will have to hold off the challenge of Mamardashvili - who is likely to start the season behind Alisson in the pecking order.
