Federico Gatti accidentally hit his coach, Thiago Motta, while celebrating Juventus‘ third goal in Leipzig, and the Bianconeri boss joked that the defender ‘deserved a red card’ although it was better to ‘not touch VAR.’
Juventus secured an impressive 3-2 Champions League win in Leipzig last night despite being reduced to ten men for over 30 minutes in the second half.
The Bianconeri scored twice despite a numerical disadvantage, collecting the second victory in two Champions League games this term.
Gatti accidentally whacked Motta in the forehead during celebrations for Francisco Conceiçao’s eventual winner, and the Italian tactician joked about the incident during a post-match press conference.
Motta had a bump on his head and said, smiling: “It was Gatti’s elbow. If VAR were there, it would have been an obvious red card. However, better not touch VAR today.”
Juventus appealed for a penalty kick in the first half, but VAR did intervene later on when Michele Di Gregorio received a straight red card for handling the ball outside the box, and Douglas Luiz caused a penalty kick only five minutes later with his first touch in the game.
Juventus are among the seven teams with six points in the opening two Champions League matches.
