In an interview with France Football, Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah (32) was asked about his relationship with former teammate Sadio Mané (33).
Mané and Salah formed part of a trio, with Roberto Firmino, that is well recognised as one of the best front threes in recent times that world football has seen. The attacking trident, managed under Jürgen Klopp, won everything that was possible to win in their time at Anfield, and scored a combined 338 goals between them during 2017/18 – 2022/23.
Despite the impressive achievements and understanding between them on the pitch, the Egyptian international revealed that the relationship between him and his Senegalese counterpart wasn’t all it seemed. Tensions between the pair once boiled over during a match against Burnley. The Al-Nassr forward saw red with the former Chelsea winger after being subbed.
Asked about his relationship with Mané, Salah said, “Yes, there was tension with Sadio. Mind you, we were professional until the end; I don’t think it affected the team. It’s human to want more, I understand that; he’s a competitor. Off the pitch, we weren’t very close, but we always respected each other.”
The 32-year-old also responded to previous comments where he was labelled as selfish, “I don’t care. People can think what they want; it’s their right. But I invite everyone to note that the person who provided Mané with the most assists is me (18).”
