“The truth is” – Andrey Santos sets the record straight on his situation at Chelsea | OneFootball

Andrey Santos has stated he’s “very happy” with Enzo Maresca and his team-mates as he spoke about his current situation at the club.

Santos came on as late substitute as Chelsea beat Fluminense 2-0 on Tuesday to advance to the Club World Cup final against either Paris Saint Germain or Real Madrid.

The 21-year-old faces fierce competition in midfield, but is expected to play a key role in Enzo Maresca’s squad next season.

Santos excelled on loan last season at Strasbourg, and scored ten goals in Ligue 1 as Chelsea’s sister side qualified for the Conference League.

The Brazilian returned to Chelsea and was named in their squad for the Club World Cup, but questions started to be asked after the midfielder featured sparingly early on in the tournament.

Maresca stated Santos would get opportunities, and the midfielder was handed a big one against Palmeiras as he replaced Reece James in the line-up after the captain felt something in the warm-up.

Santos impressed on his first start, although he found himself back on the bench against Fluminense, and he’s now spoken about his current situation.

“The truth is that I’m very happy with my teammates and coach, now we have an important game to deal with for the final, we have to work hard and be prepared for it,” he told journalist Zach Lowy.

Chelsea sweating on Caicedo fitness

Whilst Santos is happy with how things are, Chelsea are facing a possible headache in midfield, after Moises Caicedo rolled his ankle.

Caicedo took to Instagram to tell fans he’d see them on Sunday, but there’s yet to be any further updates on the situation.

Chelsea were without Romeo Lavia for the second consecutive game, whilst Dario Essugo was also missing with a slight muscular issue, and Maresca will hope for positive news on the trio in the coming days.
