The Premier League was as busy as it has ever been on transfer Deadline Day this summer, but several deals failed to get across the line.
All 20 clubs got at least one deal done. Here are the some of the ones that didn’t.
Liverpool and Crystal Palace came to an agreement and even submitted a deal sheet to get Marc Guehi’s move to Anfield over the line, but it didn’t happen. A farewell video was even produced and leaked online.
Despite signing Jaydee Corvin, Oliver Glasner’s insistence that the Eagles sign two centre-backs before selling Guehi proved to be its undoing. Unless he moves in January, the 25-year-old will be a highly sought-after free agent next summer.
In May, The Football Faithful reported that Manchester United had approached Emi Martinez about potentially joining the club in the summer, with Andre Onana potentially moving to Saudi Arabia.
Ultimately, neither move happened, with The Athletic reporting that the Aston Villa goalkeeper spent Deadline Day at the club’s training ground waiting for a call that never arrived. That’s a depressing sight.
Unai Emery was quizzed about Martinez’ future after their 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at the weekend, and the manager had a simple answer for every question thrown his way: Marco Bizot.
What did he mean? What was he trying to say? Who knows, but it was one of the funniest post-match interviews in years.
The collapse of Guehi’s transfer had ramifications for Joe Gomez, who was poised to join AC Milan on Monday.
The defender had reportedly agreed a deal to join the Rossoneri, but they never got the green light from Liverpool. Could both deals be revived in January?
Chelsea have done an impressive job shipping off their fringe players, but they failed to sell Tyrique George despite interest from Fulham and RB Leipzig.
The Cottagers had agreed a £22 million transfer fee and a sell-on clause with their west London rivals, but it was called off after the next proposed deal on our list fell through.
Leeds wanted to make Harry Wilson their 11th signing of the summer as they entered into negotiations with Fulham over a potential move.
The Yorkshire outfit agreed terms on a deal and even preemptively booked a flight for the winger to get it over the line. Fulham, however, were heavily focused on incomings, delaying any movement on the sale of Wilson. In the end, Fulham chose not to sell the former Liverpool winger.
It comes just days after Leeds missed out on Facundo Buonanotte, who joined Chelsea on loan from Brighton instead, leaving Daniel Farke disappointed following his plea for new attackers.
