Journalist and columnist Antonio Vitiello believes that AC Milan are going through one of the most difficult moments in their recent history at present.
Milan’s 125th anniversary festivities on Sunday and the private party last night were meant to be a celebration to mark a milestone in the club’s glorious history, but it was marred by protests from the Curva Sud and other fans.
A private event took place last night in the Tortona area of the city and the Curva chose to make their voices heard again, after Sunday night when the stadium booed the team and chanted against the management and the club.
They displayed banners outside and even chanted against certain players as they arrived, also imploring Gerry Cardinale to sell the club. This was all while the American owner was not present and the directors went in through a side entrance.
Vitiello published his weekly piece for MilanNews and in it he spoke about the current climate of protest that surrounds the club and how the season can be salvaged, net of any major changes.
“We are witnessing one of the most difficult moments in recent years. Milan are protested against and booed by their fans, the management and ownership have ended up in the crosshairs of the supporters for wrong choices in the last year and for the usual indifference they adopt in addressing problems,” he said.

“To make matters worse, there is a very worrying situation in the standings. Milan are eighth and continues to have no consistency of performance. [The draw] Against Genoa the straw that broke the camel’s back, so at the end of the match the disappointment of the fans exploded with a barrage of whistles directed at the club and players.
“Then the banners against the Cardinale management. Even the chant ‘out with the Americans from our Milan’ had wide media coverage, in fact they even talked about it in the United States, where we are certain that the messages definitely reached the recipient.
“And now how do we get out of this situation? Because it is unlikely that changes will be made during the season, there does not seem to be the will to make sensational changes in the positions that matter within the club, therefore the players must make an effort to try to reach the Champions League places and not throw away an entire year.
“It would be a sporting and economic disaster in view of next year. Fonseca does not seem capable of righting the ship, therefore the team needs to show its balls otherwise it will be a huge failure.”
