The early kick off on Friday saw 1984 winners Sweden take on Denmark in group C.
Peter Gerhardsson clinched a narrow 1-0 victory in Geneva, with a second half goal from Filippa Angeldal proving to be the difference.
Later that evening, one of the tournament favourites in Germany faced debutants Poland in St. Gallen, securing a 2-0 win on the night.
Jule Brand and Lea Schüller were on the scoresheet for Germany, but they have been left sweating over the fitness of captain Giulia Gwinn after she limped off with an apparent knee injury towards the end of the first half.

The first round of group games will conclude today with England and Wales among those in action.
In the early kick off, tournament debutants Wales will face the Netherlands in Lucerne as Rhian Wilkinson's side are set to make history.
This evening, England will kick off their campaign against France as they begin their defence of the title.

All eyes will be on the blockbuster fixture between England and France this evening and Lauren James is a player capable of making the difference.
The 23-year-old, who has endured recent struggles with injury, has fought her way back to fitness ahead of the tournament and the Lionesses will no doubt look to her to make a difference, whether from the start or off the bench.
James, who plays her club football with WSL champions Chelsea, has all the ability to be a standout performer at this EUROS and a good tournament for the winger will no doubt mean a fantastic run for England.

Like Poland yesterday, Wales are set to take to the European stage for the first time in their history.
Wilkinson's side secured their place at this summer's tournament with a stellar play-off campaign, in which they overcame the Republic of Ireland 3-2 on aggregate back in December.
For someone like Jess Fishlock, who made her debut for Wales all the way back in 2006, this has been nearly two decades in the making.
Chelsea's Sophie Ingle has fought her way back from an ACL injury to be back in time for the EUROS, while forward Hannah Cain has suffered the same injury twice in her career and scored one of the qualifying goals to ensure their place in Switzerland.
Regardless of how their campaign transpires, it will be a historic and momentous occasion for all involved in Welsh women's football - but make no mistake - they are not here to simply make up numbers and will be a tough test for all group D teams.
Watch as Wales stars Cain and Esther Morgan discuss their injury set-backs and what it's taken to get to this point, ready to represent their nation at a major tournament.
