‘The incidents don’t help’ – Italian media divided on officiating in Fiorentina-Milan | OneFootball

The performance of referee Luca Pairetto and the VAR team during Fiorentina-Milan last night has divided opinion in the newspapers, as was always likely to be the case after awarding three penalties.

The first spot kick was given after Theo Hernandez was adjudged to have kicked Fiorentina right-back Dodo right on the edge of the box, following a consultation with the VAR monitor, but Mike Maignan thankfully saved it.

Pairetto pointed to the spot again after Tijjani Reijnders went down in the box following a through ball from Christian Pulisic, though David De Gea saved Theo Hernandez’s penalty. He saved again from 12 yards in the second half, denying Tammy Abraham after Matteo Gabbia was kicked inside the box.

As Radio Rossonera relays, the opinions of the Italian newspapers are divided and the ratings range from 6 to 4.5, with disagreements over some of the major calls that he had to make in a feisty affair.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (6): “He has to watch the first penalty on the monitor, he called the other two live. Decisions that can also be shared on the contacts in the two areas between Theo and Colpani and Ranieri-Abraham. He loses a bit of composure towards the end, but the match was really complicated.”
