There is always a lot of speculation surrounding FC Barcelona when it comes to potential targets. After all, considering the club’s standing in the football world, it is hardly surprising. Yet, this summer has proven to be a rather complicated one for Barcelona.

Despite being in a better financial situation than last summer, the club is yet to confirm any second signing so far. The first was Spanish goalkeeper Joan Garcia, who joined the club this summer following the payment of his €25 million release clause.

However, the club has since been working on the signing of a new left-winger. Unfortunately, the hunt and search of a player in that position has proven to be quite difficult for the club. Even though Nico Williams was previously being addressed as a top target, that operation ultimately fell apart.

Since then, fans of the club have been waiting for news on when a new winger could end up being signed and which player would Barcelona end up going for. However, they may have to wait a little longer due to Barça’s current priorities.

According to SPORT, the Catalan giants are looking to first sell players and trim their own high salaries before addressing the signing of a new player. This is because the arrival of a new left-winger will likely be a big investment, and the club wants to do things right.

It is precisely due to that reason that a possible high-value sale is being considered this summer already. Moreover, the thought process behind wanting to offload certain players like Marc-Andre Ter Stegen revolves around removing their huge salaries from their expenses, even if the players themselves are not too keen about leaving.

Signing a winger may have to wait

Moreover, Barcelona now believes that negotiations to sign a new left-winger can be expected to be long and complicated. For that reason, the report suggests that the arrival of a new winger will likely have to wait until August to be completed.

However, that does not mean that the club will stop looking at possible options. Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman is reportedly being eyed by the club, and La Blaugrana have reportedly previously held talks with English winger Marcus Rashford.
