It would appear Luis Diaz’s Liverpool future is going to be decided in the next few weeks. Transfer talk around the Colombia winger is increasing in volume.
It was reported earlier this week that Bayern Munich had ambitions to onboard the 28-year-old. Indeed, German sources claimed talks were underway between Diaz and the Bavarians - who have a pressing need for attacking reinforcements.
But in the background have always been Barcelona. Diaz is seen as the dream signing for sporting director Deco and it’s no secret that the player would like to play for the Catalans.
All bets looked off a few weeks ago as Barca attempted to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Club. But that deal has fallen apart - and it could put Barca back in the frame for Diaz.
A new report in AS claims Barca want Diaz as an alternative to Williams.
Williams, it is suggested, wanted a release clause in his Barca contract - which would have allowed him to leave Camp Nou in the event that they were unable to register him for the season ahead.
However, the AS report claims that Diaz is willing to take the risk and won’t insist on a release clause if he joins Barca and is unable to play.
Instead, the Spanish paper reports, he would seek to add a compensation clause to the contract if he was locked out of the first-team picture until the January transfer window or beyond.
“Díaz wouldn't leave for free if Barça couldn't register him, but the club would need to financially compensate him for the sporting damage of being sidelined,” the report states.

Diaz is under contract until 2027 and there is little prospect of him signing a new deal - at least on the terms that Liverpool are willing to pay.
So if the Reds get the right fee for Diaz - said to be €80m - then he could well be sold.
This deal is going to be anything but straightforward - given the scale of Barca’s financial problems and the logistical hurdles which need to be worked through.
Liverpool may well be reluctant to give up their 13-goal, Premier League title-winning forward but €80m for a 28-year-old with two years on his contract is a sum that makes a lot of sense.
