The Sounders previously participated in the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup where they were eliminated in the second round by Egypt's Al Ahly.
At the time of writing, Seattle Sounders are currently sixth in the Western Conference of MLS with seven wins from their first 18 matches. The American side also struggled in the CONCACAF Champions League, losing to eventual winners Cruz Azul.

Sounders are managed by Brian Schmetzer, who has been with the club since 2002 and has served as head coach since 2016. Under his stewardship the west coast club have won seven major titles.
Forward Jordan Morris is the Sounders' all-time leading scorer with 87 goals. A product of the club's youth academy, Morris netted three times when they won the 2022 Concacaf Champions League.
The Sounders have been drawn alongside Paris Saint-Germain, Atlético de Madrid and Botafogo. All group stage matches will be held at Lumen Field in Seattle and they will need that home advantage in one of the tougher groups.
