The Terriers have numerous players out of contract in 2025

Huddersfield Town's squad has seen a big turnover of players in recent months, and it is set to be a similar story at the end of the season, with numerous players out of contract.

The Terriers are back in League One for the first time since 2012 this term, and Michael Duff is the man tasked with taking them back to the Championship.

Duff's current squad is very different to the one he took over in May, and it could be set for another sizeable change come next year, likely dependent on how the Terriers' season pans out.

With that in mind, FLW have taken a look at the 12 players who, as of now, will depart the John Smith's Stadium next summer upon the expiry of their contracts, according to Transfermarkt.

Michal Helik

It came as somewhat of a shock to see towering centre-back Michal Helik stay at Huddersfield in the summer, but he will depart the club at the end of this season for free regardless, so long as their option to extend his contract by another year is not taken up.

Helik shone in the second-tier at Barnsley prior to his 2022 move to the Terriers, and is also a full Poland international with seven caps to his name for his country.

He is currently out injured, but has otherwise remained a key part of Duff's side this season, and Huddersfield fans will not want to see him depart for no fee next summer.

Josh Koroma

Left-winger Josh Koroma is another that has previously been a standout in the Championship for the Terriers, but he has remained at the club in League One this season.

The 25-year-old joined Town from Leyton Orient in 2019, and his best season at the club so far came in 2020/21 as he notched eight goals and two assists in just 21 appearances, but he has struggled to replicate that form until the start of this term.

Koroma has been a regular starter for Duff so far, but is also currently sidelined through injury, and will depart at the end of his contract in June as it stands.

Matty Pearson

Experienced centre-back Matty Pearson is now into his fourth season as a Town player, yet it could be his last, with his current deal set to expire next summer.

Pearson has made over 100 appearances for the club since he made the move from Luton Town in 2021, yet has found himself struggling for minutes in the third-tier as he competes for places with Helik, Tom Lees and Brodie Spencer.

As a result, it would not come as a shock to see him move on at the end of the season, regardless of which league the Terriers are in.

David Kasumu

David Kasumu has failed to ever really find his feet at the John Smith's Stadium, but does look more suited to League One football with more influence on the team under Duff than ever before in the second-tier.

The central midfielder signed a three-year deal at the club when he joined from MK Dons in 2022, and so will depart at the end of the season as it stands, but that could depend on his performances throughout the rest of the campaign.

Huddersfield do hold an option to extend his deal by a further year, if they wish, which seems likely given his performances and potential to improve even further.

Jaheim Headley

Although a left-back by trade, Jaheim Headley has been deployed as a left-wing-back under Duff so far, and has seen his game-time reduced this season as a result.

The 23-year-old is a product of the Terriers' youth academy, after he joined their under-17 side in 2017, and he made his senior debut for the club in February last year after being recalled from a loan at Harrogate Town.

Headley's last contract extension in September last year saw him tied to the club until 2025, so he will depart for free next summer if nothing changes.

Tom Lees

Tom Lees is an EFL veteran, and his experience can not be understated in a young team that is aiming to get out of League One at the first time of asking this season.

Lees has played 485 times in the Championship over the last 13 years, yet this term represents his first foray into the third-tier, so it should come as no surprise that he is a key member of Duff's squad.

The 33-year-old will be valuable to Town's potential success over the coming months, yet is set to leave at the end of the season with his contract up, and may well be looking for a fourth permanent club of his career come July.

Ollie Turton

Another of Huddersfield's elder statesman who boasts a wealth of experience in the Football League, right-back Ollie Turton, has struggled to ever truly make his mark in West Yorkshire since a 2021 move from Blackpool.

The 31-year-old has been held back by numerous injury struggles in his time with the Terriers, and has rarely featured in the last 18 months as a result.

He is out of contract at the end of the season, but the club do have the option to trigger another year's extension, so he will hope to break into Duff's league side soon to give them food for thought ahead of next summer.

Josh Ruffels

Gambar artikel:The 12 Huddersfield Town players set to become free agents next year

Josh Ruffels is another that has seen injury impact his time with Town over the years, and he does look set to leave the club for the second time in 2025, with no extension option and limited game-time under Duff.

Ruffels became a cult hero at Oxford United before he joined Huddersfield in 2021, and he impressed for the Terriers in the 2022/23 campaign, before he was released that same summer just to rejoin the club a few months later.

The left-back signed a two-year deal upon resigning, and so will depart the West Yorkshire outfit for free next year as it stands.

Danny Ward

Gambar artikel:The 12 Huddersfield Town players set to become free agents next year

Striker Danny Ward has fallen to the wayside somewhat at Huddersfield in years gone by, but was once a key member of their squad that made the play-off final in 2022, as he hit 14 league goals that season.

Ward is now 33, and has displayed his striking credentials in the EFL Trophy and EFL Cup, yet has seen his influence lessen even further under Duff and looks to be behind the likes of Callum Marshall and Bojan Radulovic in the attacking pecking order right now.

His Town contract expires at the end of the season, and he will surely not be short of offers from numerous Football League clubs if he does depart the John Smith's Stadium.

Chris Maxwell

Gambar artikel:The 12 Huddersfield Town players set to become free agents next year

Chris Maxwell is the Terriers' current second-choice goalkeeper behind Lee Nicholls, and there can not be many better back-up keepers in League One this term, given his experience and time spent as a number one in the Championship in years gone by.

The 34-year-old has featured 10 times in the second-tier last season, but has been restricted to cup appearances under Duff, with Jacob Chapman playing in the league ahead of him after Nicholls' injury.

He is out of contract at the end of the season, and it looks pretty likely that he will depart for a new challenge elsewhere.

Jonathan Hogg

Gambar artikel:The 12 Huddersfield Town players set to become free agents next year

Jonathan Hogg is a Huddersfield legend, and was not ready to say goodbye in the summer as he put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension to keep his 11-year association with the club going.

Club captain Hogg has played over 360 times for the club across 12 seasons, and is still as influential as ever on and off the pitch at 35-years-old, yet could soon be coming to the end of his time in West Yorkshire.

It remains to be seen whether he will extend his deal again past the end of this campaign, but he will go down in Terriers folklore regardless, and may well stay on at the club in a coaching role if he chooses to finish his career at 36-years-old.

Loick Ayina

Gambar artikel:The 12 Huddersfield Town players set to become free agents next year

Young centre-back Loick Ayina has spent more time out on loan in recent seasons than in the Terriers' senior side, and is seemingly not a part of Duff's thinking this term, as he struggles to even appear in matchday squads in the third-tier.

The 21-year-old did feature three times in the Championship in 2023/24, but has mostly spent time at Boston United, Dundee United and Ross County in years gone by, and looks set to bring his five-year spell with Huddersfield to an end next summer when his contract expires.
