We’re hearing more and more from Levi Colwill as the season goes by.

That should be no surprise – he’s a home grown player, he speaks really well, he’s a regular starter and he’s growing more and more into a leadership role. We’ve seen him captain the team at times already – and we would have seen it far more often were he ever dropping down to feature in the B team.

A lot of Colwill’s comments so far have been focused on new manager Enzo Maresca, and his latest interview (this time with Sky Sports ahead of our Super Sunday clash with Arsenal) has a long section on that topic.

You can see Colwill speaking in the clip embedded here:

Colwill on Maresca’s unique edge

“The way we prepare for games is second to none. We know everything we’re going to do going into games. We’ve got videos. And if there’s any other things that you need to know, like I said, you just ask him [Maresca], and he’ll give you the answers,” Colwill explained.

“You can have that a conversation with him to why he’s doing that, and I think that’s what makes him a top, top manager, and that’s why he’s going to take the team to new heights.”

Colwill may be young, but he’s already played under a few highly rated managers including Mauricio Pochettino and Roberto de Zerbi, as well as some really top coaches in the Chelsea and England youth setups. So the fact he points to Maresca’s preparation as exceptional is a major compliment.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard Colwill praise Maresca, and the affection seems to be reciprocated. The pair could be perfect for each other as they build on a bright start at Chelsea and look to become long term stalwarts of the club.
