Benjamin Šeško's scoring run against FC Bayern continued at the weekend. With just over 10 minutes played on Saturday at the Red Bull Arena, our striker was around 35 yards out from goal when he spotted FCB goalkeeper Jonas Urbig off his line. The Slovenian then produced a sensational first-time finish with the outside of his boot to open the scoring. "It wasn't an easy chance, the ball could have gone anywhere," explained Šeško with a smile on his face. "I'm therefore really happy that the ball hit the back of the net. The early goal helped us."
It was the 21-year-old's 13th Bundesliga goal of the season and his third goal in his last three games against FCB. "Our performance in the first half against Bayern and our late equaliser will give us a boost ahead of the final two games. We want to finish as high in the table as possible," added the youngster.
RBL's target remains to qualify for the Champions League. "We will do all we can to achieve that. The league is really even. We will keep believing until the end." The striker wants to continue contributing goals - and also hopes he can at least equal his tally of 14 Bundesliga goals from last season.
This season's race for Europe has been one of the most competitive in recent years, with half of the league's teams still in with a chance of qualifying for one of the three European competitions ahead of matchday 33. This weekend's opponents Werder Bremen, who currently occupy eighth place, are one of those sides. Ole Werner's team are three points behind RB Leipzig going into Saturday's match-up.
Benjamin Šeško: "Anything is possible still. This season has had its high and lows, but that doesn't matter now. Our focus is only on our final two games. We want to win in Bremen on Saturday. They are really strong at home and it will be a good atmosphere - it's going to be an exciting game."
The Slovenia international is hoping to count on the support of the RBL fans once again this weekend: "The atmosphere against Bayern was incredible. Our fans are always there for us, whether we're playing at home or away. They will make some real noise again in Bremen."
Šeško is also enjoying a strong second season with the Red Bulls, scoring 21 goals and recording six assists in 43 competitive games, meaning he's had a hand in the most goals of any RBL player in 2024/25. The tall centre forward also showed against the newly-crowned German champions that, aside from scoring goals, he can also hold the ball up and pass it to his teammates.
The 21-year-old has learnt a lot from club legend Yussi Poulsen in that regard: "He provides me with a lot of support. I've learnt a lot from him. Yussi gives 110% in every game, he's a true role model."
When asked about his future, the striker answered: "It's not on my mind right now. I'm only focusing on the here and now. I'm an RB Leipzig player and my focus is fully on our last two Bundesliga games. You have to give your best until the last minute if you want to be successful. That's what we're going to do."
Benjamin Šeško has scored a goal in each of his last two Bundesliga matches against Werder Bremen - we'd love it if he could continue his scoring run against the Green-Whites, just as he did against Bayern last time out!
