Every single player at FC Barcelona has to fight for their place in the team. After all, it is through such competition that great teams are born and can deliver on the biggest stages. With the final stretch of the season now here, Barcelona can not afford to be complacent.

La Blaugrana have fought long and hard this season to get where they are right now, and they simply will not put themselves in a position where they jeopardize their progress. However, at the same time, certain players will get more opportunities than others.

While not everyone seems to be happy with their current situation at the club, others may not have a future at Barça beyond this season. According to Fichajes, one such player whose future is now uncertain is veteran goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

Despite being the team’s undisputed starter since the start of the year, it seems now that the imminent return of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen could end up pushing the 35-year-old Pole back to bench duties. As per the report, the 32-year-old German goalkeeper will likely return to his place as the team’s undisputed starter and that could be bad news for both Inaki Pena and Wojciech Szczesny.

In fact, even beyond just turning him into the secondary option, it could potentially make him leave at the end of the season as well. While it is true that the player has hinted at his desire to stay with Barcelona beyond this season, the reality is that he is still an emergency signing who only has a contract until the end of this season for now.

For now, it remains to be seen just how Hansi Flick integrates Ter Stegen back into the starting eleven if he plans on doing so. Having been sidelined due to a serious injury, the German shot-stopper has been in recovery since quite a while. However, at the same time, the final decision lies with the Barcelona coaching staff and that could dictate a lot of things moving forward.
