Tebas slams CSD ruling in Olmo registration case – ‘We are entering dangerous territory’ | OneFootball

La Liga president Javier Tebas has issued a strong and detailed response following the Higher Sports Council’s (CSD) decision to allow the registrations of Barcelona duo Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.

The dispute centres on the January registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor by Barcelona. LaLiga had blocked their licences, citing procedural issues, but the Blaugrana appealed to the CSD, which, after initially granting them precautionary measures, ruled in their favour.

Tebas lashes out

Posting a statement on his personal X account, Tebas described the CSD ruling as legally “disproportionate” and “excessively formalist.”

He defended the actions and protocols followed by LaLiga, warning that the CSD’s resolution could undermine the legal and procedural stability of professional sport in Spain.

“After several hours calmly analysing the CSD’s resolution, I want to express my total disagreement with the criteria adopted in the case of the FC Barcelona licences,” started the La Liga chief.

“The decision to annul the agreement of the Monitoring Commission seems to me legally disproportionate and excessively formalist. And I say this as a jurist.”

Continuing, he added: “We are looking at a clear case of extreme formalism, where the essential is ignored – that the decision had already been made in accordance with the law (Competitions Directorate) – and a wording is blown out of proportion to justify an intervention that, honestly, seems more political than legal.”

Expressing concerns about the verdict, he further noted: “And this is not just about a specific resolution. This is about defending the coherence of the system, respect for technical procedures, and legal certainty.

“Because if every automated, valid and unchallenged act can be left in the air due to the wording of a later report, we are entering very dangerous territory.”

As already reported, La Liga intends to appeal the verdict by the CSD which allowed both Olmo and Victor to remain registered for the duration of the season.
