Talles Magno’s hot start, worrying drought | OneFootball

According to UOL, Talles Magno’s first half of 2025 at Corinthians highlighted both promise and frustration for the 23-year-old forward. After joining on loan from New York City FC in late August of the previous year, he entered the current campaign with apparent purpose and quickly secured a contract extension through to the end of 2025.

Magno’s start to the season in the Campeonato Paulista was a bright spot. Appearing in twelve state championship matches—starting half of them—he found the net five times and added an assist. That tally saw him finish as Corinthians' joint-top scorer in the competition alongside Yuri Alberto, underlining his early impact on Dorival Júnior’s attacking plans.

However, Magno’s momentum did not extend beyond the opening months of the year. The forward has failed to score for more than four months, with his last goal coming on 15 February, in a 2-2 draw against Portuguesa at the Arena Mercado Livre Pacaembu. Despite that early flurry of form in the Paulista, the absence of goals since then has become a notable drought, particularly as he remains the club’s third-highest scorer in 2025.

This prolonged run without a goal has taken place even as his future at the club appeared secured with the renewal of his loan. The confidence initially shown in Magno by both coaching staff and the board reflects the value they saw in his early contribution, but the subsequent dry spell has raised questions about his consistency and ability to sustain a run of form through the demands of the national league campaign.

Corinthians’ evolving attack has relied on rotation during Yuri Alberto’s injury absence, yet Magno’s lack of end product coincided with the team's broader struggles for clinical finishing. His initial role as a difference-maker now feels distant. The coaching staff will monitor both his performances and mentality heading into the latter half of the season, searching for the spark that briefly made Magno a central figure in the squad’s attacking structure.

As Corinthians look to climb the table and build more consistent results, the hope remains that Talles Magno can translate his early flashes into sustained contributions. For now, though, his season stands defined as much by his scoring drought as his productive run in the state championship.
