Tyrhys Dolan looks set to become available this summer, and the Swans should pounce on a player who can be a top attacking threat

Tyrhys Dolan is sure to be a wanted man this summer, with the 23-year-old’s contract at Blackburn Rovers set to expire in three months’ time.

Talks have stalled regarding a new deal for the playmaker, paving the way for him to seek new employment during the off-season, with a number of Championship sides likely to be interested in his services.

Football League World exclusively revealed that Swansea City were one of those linked with a move for the creative attacking midfielder back in January, but Rovers decided to hold firm as they looked set to mount a play-off push.

But with the Lancashire outfit dropping out of the top six over the past few weeks, a change of scenery could well do the dinky dynamo the world of good this summer, and the Swans should be eager to capitalise on the situation.

Tyrhys Dolan's Blackburn Rovers contract situation is still very much up in the air

After Rovers utilised an optioning Dolan’s contract to extend his stat at Ewood Park by another year last summer, his future has always been in jeopardy throughout the past 12 months.

Having made such a huge impact with his flair and finesse in the final third over the past four-and-a-half years, there will be no one wanting to see the forward leave the club in the coming months, but the player himself seems to have other ideas.

Contract talks have been going nowhere over the last few months, leaving the former Premier League champions stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to their star man’s future.

The only saving grace for Valerien Ismael’s side would be the fact that they would be eligible to receive compensation if he does leave for free this summer, with those payments allowed until a player reaches 24.

With that in mind, although they may not see him in the blue and white again, the club could well be quids in if the powers that be decide that Dolan is worth a pretty penny to his current employers.

Having made over 170 Championship appearances for Blackburn over the past few years, any club will likely be forced to hand over a hefty fee to Rovers if the playmaker does switch allegiances in the coming months, although his talents have proven he is well worth a seven-figure investment.

Swansea City would flourish with Tyrhys Dolan if they get managerial appointment right

The 24/25 campaign has been the latest example of Dolan providing plenty of attacking spark for Rovers, with his crafty work in the final third contributing to his side’s play-off push.

While things have taken a turn for the worse since John Eustace’s departure, the playmaker has still contributed towards nine goals for his side this season, with his last strike helping to seal all three points in a 2-0 win over Plymouth Argyle last month.

Only Makhtar Gueye (12) has more contributions this season, while his tally of 77 progressive carries is by far and away the highest of any player at Ewood Park, and signifies his importance of gaining territory in a direct manner.

The main criticism to Dolan’s game is the fact he should be adding more goals to his game, with a number of golden opportunities being squandered over the course of the season, and it is that fact alone that likely stops any top end Championship clubs swooping in for him.

Having underperformed his xG numbers by 2.1 thus far, Rovers have been left bemoaning his inability to turn chances into goals for much of the campaign.

Nevertheless, with a direct, pacy, creative player likely to be free to a good home this summer, Swansea should be among the leading names to try and make him theirs, as they look to revolutionise the squad after Luke Williams’ departure.

Alan Sheehan continues to oversee first-team matters at this moment in time, but if the Welsh side appoint a boss looking to continue the trend of attractive, attacking football this summer, Dolan should be top of the wish list to help the team tick in the final third.

With the likes of Liam Cullen, Ronald and Eom Ji Sung to work alongside, City could add another potent weapon to their options up top with the arrival of the Blackburn Rovers man, who will surely only get better as his career progresses.

The club look to have found their mojo again recently, and are thriving as an attacking force once again, and if they are able to nab Dolan this summer, it will be a massive statement of intent heading into the 25/26 campaign.
