A22 Sports Management have formally submitted a new proposal to UEFA and FIFA for a ‘cross-border pan-European’ competition called the Unify League, three years on from the failed European Super League project.
A22, who became involved in the European Super League project in 2022, have confirmed in an official press release that they have submitted plans for a new competition and have requested official recognition from UEFA and FIFA with the hope of forming a new competition for European clubs.
Following a ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union in December 2023, any competition where qualification is meritocratic and inclusive, and which complies with pre-existing schedules, are now allowed to be established.
It was declared that FIFA and UEFA’s rules on club competitions needing prior approval went against European Union law.
The latest proposal comes three years after the failed attempt to launch the European Super League, a closed competition for some of Europe’s most prestigious clubs, which at the time included Juventus, Inter and Milan.
There have been several amendments to the new proposal. The most notable is the fact that the Unify League is based on meritocracy and is open to clubs from all 55 recognised European top flights.
