Sunderland AFC have reached an agreement in principle to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Nordi Mukiele, and he has been given permission to travel, according to RMC Sports journalist Fabrice Hawkins.
Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris has seen the Black Cats bring new players to the Stadium of Light club following Premier League promotion, but they are not done and the Frenchman could be next.
The versatile Mukiele is out of favour at PSG having spent last term on loan in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen.
The 27-year-old one-time France international will now be plying his trade in the Premier League with Sunderland from the look of things, but he could be unavailable for their opening game of 2025-26 against West Ham United at home tomorrow.
The Black Cats have signed Enzo Le Fee, Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki, Reinildo Mandava, Chemsdine Talbi, Simon Adingra, Granit Xhaka, Robin Roefs, Marc Guiu, Arthur Masuaku and Omar Alderete so far this summer, and the PSG star could be next.
Mukiele brings much-needed experience and quality to the table for Sunderland having played over 200 games across the Ligue 1 and Bundesliga.
He last played for France in 2021 and a move to the Premier League could boost his chances of forcing his way back into the star-studded national team if he impresses this term.
Le Bris needs all the help he can get if the Black Cats are to stay up at the end of 2025-26, and more quality additions could be on the cards during the final two weeks of the summer transfer window.
Signing Mukiele is huge for Sunderland given his quality and calibre, and they will fancy their chances of staying up if most of their new additions click and manage to hit the ground running when the campaign starts.
