Chelsea and Manchester City play for the Subway Women’s League Cup, while the WSL weekend begins early at Anfield on Friday evening.

Manchester United play their game in hand on leaders Chelsea – whom they trail by eight points – when taking on fifth-placed Liverpool at Anfield, with the hosts under interim manager Amber Whiteley boosted by the FA Cup win over Arsenal.

Still in Merseyside on Friday, the Gunners look to bounce back and potentially go second but three points for Everton could lift them into the top half of the table.

Erin Cuthbert has signed a new two-year deal with Chelsea ahead of their Pride Park battle for silverware with managerless Manchester City, for whom Nick Cushing makes a return to the dugout after Gareth Taylor’s departure.

It is the fifth straight League Cup Final for Chelsea but they have lost all the last three, including one to City in 2022. The Citizens made three other finals all under Nick Cushing, they were victorious twice against Arsenal but lost the other to the Gunners.

Sunday brings a really crucial clash at the bottom of the WSL, as Crystal Palace entertain Aston Villa with the Eagles four points adrift in the relegation place.

Tottenham take on Brighton in a mid-table matchup, Spurs in seventh two points short of the Seagulls in fifth.

Barclays Women’s Championship leaders Birmingham City host Southampton, London City Lionesses are three points off the top with a game in hand as they welcome Blackburn Rovers.

Charlton Athletic are a further point back and with a testing fixture away to fifth-placed Bristol City, Durham have a derby at noon against Newcastle United with three points separating the sides in fourth and seventh respectively.

Portsmouth are in last place but within a point or two of Sheffield United and Blackburn respectively, as they prepare to play Sunderland at Fratton Park.
