Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor says that remaining unbeaten is a big motivation for her side when they face Manchester United at Kingsmeadow this afternoon.

Both sides are yet to taste defeat in all competitions. It has been the perfect start for the Bompastor era at Chelsea with The Blues having won all of their 11 matches so far.

When speaking to the media in the pre-match press conference, Chelsea boss Bompastor said that remaining unbeaten after this afternoon’s game is a big motivation for her side.

“It’s a big motivation to make sure that we prepare well and hopefully be the team that is still unbeaten,” Bompastor said. “It brings an extra motivation because we want to show that we are able to beat every team. This is the mentality that you have to have when you want to win everything.

“There’s another big challenge coming and as players and managers, this is what we want in our jobs.”

Going on to discuss Manchester United, Bompastor said that her side are prepared to face a well-organised opponent.

She said “Manchester United have a strong squad with a lot of quality all over the pitch. I think they’re a team that are really organised, they don’t concede a lot of goals, so we will have to find a way to position the ball to give them some trouble. Watching their games, they really defend well as a team and are really organised.

“They good thing is that we faced Celtic on Wednesday and we maybe expect similar organisation. At moments, it might be a low block and compact; we’ve worked on that in the game on Wednesday and in training.”

Despite winning 11 games out of 11 so far, Bompastor says that her Chelsea side will not go into this afternoon’s clash over-confident or with any complacency.

She said “There’s no danger. As a manager, I always make sure that we have a good balance between confidence and knowing that we have to work hard to get good results and performances.

“The players are confident at the moment but they’re not over-confident. They are professionals, they know that when you play for Chelsea, there are high expectations. Of course, we are on a good run and we have a good dynamic but the reality is that we haven’t won anything yet.”

Chelsea’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Manchester United kicks-off at 12pm this afternoon. The game has been declared a sell-out.
