Tottenham Hotspur‘s players must ‘move on’ from the Ange Postecoglou era, Spurs defender Ben Davies feels.
Despite delivering a trophy, in the shape of the Europa League, and qualification for next season’s Champions League, Postecoglou was sacked by Daniel Levy.
Brentford boss Thomas Frank is the overwhelming favourite to succeed Postecoglou, but as of Sunday, the Bees had not heard from Tottenham.
It has been suggested that a host of players within the Tottenham dressing room are unhappy that the club have sacked Postecoglou.
Davies though believes that the players must move on and focus on the job in front of them as they do not have input into the managerial position.
“From a players’ standpoint, you don’t tend to have too much input into those decisions”, Davies was quoted as saying by journalist Phil Cadden.
“For us, we read about the news as you did.
“As players, we have to move on and do the job that is in front of us and it’s no different this time.”
Davies will be at Tottenham into next season after the club extended his contract by a further year.
The defender had been linked with a potential move to Leeds United, but will be staying in north London.
Davies, 32, will want to impress whoever is the new Tottenham manager as he bids to command regular game time over the course of next season.
Tottenham signed Davies from Welsh side Swansea City in 2014 and the Europa League was the first trophy he has lifted during his time at the club.
Davies won the EFL Cup when he was on the books at Swansea, while he also came out on the wrong side of two EFL Cup finals and the Champions League final at Tottenham.
