Between 11-12am GMT, the UEFA World Cup qualifying draw took place in Zurich, Switzerland, as 54 European nations found out their paths to the World Cup. This includes the nations of many Spurs players. Let’s see how their routes look.

European Spurs players find out their World Cup qualifiers

For Guglielmo Vicario and Destiny Udogie’s Italy, their draw depends on the nations league. Should they win their quarter-final tie with Germany, they will face a qualifying group of; Slovakia, Northern Ireland, and Luxembourg.

Should they lose that tie with Germany, their group will consist of; Norway, Israel, Estonia and Moldova, with an extra team in place.

Elsewhere, Pedro Porro’s Spain side are in a similar boat. If they overcome the Netherlands, where Porro will face off with Micky van de Ven, they will be in a group with; Turkey, Georgia, and Bulgaria.

Then, were they to lose that tie, they will be in a group with; Poland, Finland, Lithuania, and Malta. All of that logic applies to van de Ven and his Netherlands side. Beat Spain and have the above four team group, lose and have the below five team group.

As for Ben Davies and Brennan Johnson’s Wales side, more straightforward. They are in a group with Belgium, North Macedonia, Kazakhstan and Liechtenstein. Due to their nations league performance, they are guaranteed a play-off spot in a worst case scenario.

Meanwhile, for Dejan Kulusevski, Lucas Bergvall, and their Sweden side – they are in a group consisting of; Switzerland, Slovenia, and Kosovo. Having not qualified for the last two major tournaments, they will be desperate to make amends here.

Finally, for Dominic Solanke and his England side, they have been placed in a group with; Serbia, Albania, Latvia, and Andorra. This could end up being relevant to James Maddison too, with Thomas Tuchel alleged to be a big fan of the midfielder. At this rate, Fraser Forster may even get the nod as one of the cover goalkeepers.

The qualifiers are set to begin in March, before finishing in November, with the play-offs taking place in March of 2026, just three months before the tournament begins, and after the draw for the finals have been made.

For one of Porro and van de Ven, and perhaps Udogie and Vicario, their World Cup qualifying campaign will not start until September, should they advance to the nations league semi-finals and final that take place in June. Hence four team groups instead of five.
