Earlier on today, it looked like Austrian central defender was on his way to join Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers. However, as per various reports, it appears that Spurs have hijacked a deal for his signature, and he will instead be coming to North London.

As of 20:00 GMT, John Percy of the Telegraph stated on Twitter: "Wolves are very close to signing Lens centre-back Kevin Danso. Deal now is a straight loan for rest of the season after bids of up to just under £21m were turned down. Danso expected to undergo a medical on Sunday."

Then, an hour later, on his Twitter account, he retweeted a tweet from Telegraph colleague Mike McGrath about how Spurs had made a late move for Danso, before quoting his own tweet with: "Wolves incredibly frustrated over Kevin Danso U-turn after agreeing deal with Lens, with medical arranged for Sunday. Tottenham now set to sign Austria international as colleague @mcgrathmike has reported."

Now, as this article has been typed up, David Ornstein has also confirmed the same, stating: "Kevin Danso pulls out of loan move to Wolves & Tottenham exploring deal to sign centre-back from Lens. 26yo Austria international [was] scheduled to undergo medical on Sunday but head turned by Spurs + switch to Spurs now being worked on."

Wow, out of nowhere, Spurs are going to get a central defender after all. The move to Wolves would have been a loan deal, though Ornstein has suggested that the defender is moving to Ange's side on a permanent basis.

The 26-year old has played for Lens since 2021, and was a part of the side that finished second in Ligue 1 in the 22/23 season, just one point behind Paris Saint Germain. He has had an interesting upbringing, being born in Austria to Ghanaian parents, before growing up in Milton Keynes (poor guy), playing in the academies of Reading and MK Dons before moving to Germany as a 17-year old.

This would not be his first spell in England, having played 10 times for Southampton in the 19/20 season. Things did not work out there, but there is little doubt it would have been a great learning curve for him, and he is for sure a much better player now. This signing likely indicates a serious injury for Radu Dragusin, you would assume.
