Spain’s national team coach, Luis de la Fuente, has hinted at fresh changes in the squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures.

The adjustments will be made for several reasons, including injuries affecting key players.

With the official squad announcement just around the corner, there is growing anticipation about which players will make the final cut.

One of the key talking points in Spanish football has been the form of Barcelona’s young talent, Lamine Yamal.

The 17-year-old has not found the back of the net in La Liga since October, leading to questions about his performance.

Patience is the key

Interestingly, de la Fuente has urged patience, reminding everyone that the winger is still in the early stages of his development.

While he may not be scoring regularly, his overall contribution to the game remains at a high level, making him an invaluable asset for both Barcelona and Spain.

“He is still in his training, he is 17 years old, let’s not forget that. We have to respect his growth and development.

Regardless of whether he scores or not, his level is very high and he is a luxury for Spanish football,” said the Spanish coach as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

On Pau Cubarsi

De la Fuente also touched on the future of promising talents such as Real Madrid’s Raul Asencio and Barcelona’s Pau Cubarsi.

He emphasised that both players are improving with each passing day and could play an important role in the national team setup.

The Spanish coach made it clear that the doors of the national team are always open to top-quality players who continue to progress.

“They are two very important players, who are growing every day. Here, good footballers always have the doors open,” he added.

The matches that await

As the international break approaches, Spain will turn their attention to two crucial Nations League matches against the Netherlands.

These games form part of the quarter-finals, with the first leg set to take place at the Feyenoord Stadium in March. The return fixture will be held at Mestalla, where Spain will look to secure a spot in the next round.

With squad selection decisions looming and high-stakes matches ahead, all eyes will be on de la Fuente and his choices as Spain aim to take another step forward in the competition.
