Italy coach Luciano Spalletti insists he takes all the blame for the EURO 2024 debacle, but it allowed the squad to start the ‘renewal process.’

The Azzurri were eliminated in the Round of 16 during a 2-0 defeat to Switzerland, having just scraped through the group phase of the tournament.

The CT was visiting the Sant’Orsola hospital in Bologna today and spoke to reporters about his role.

“My players must feel that I want what is best for them, that is fundamental,” said Spalletti.

“I am the one who did badly at the Euros, but it sparked a renewal process via the victory in the Nations League against France in Paris.”

That 3-1 victory was the first time Italy had beaten France on their own soil for 70 years and was followed by another Nations League win against Israel.

The Nazionale are next in action against Belgium on October 10, then hosting Israel on October 14.

They complete the Nations League away to Belgium on November 14 and welcoming France on November 17.
