Southampton still has just 9 points after 28 Premier League matchdays. In this alarming situation, Saints defender Harwood-Bellis insists they must take some points from the Wolves fixture next.
Ask a neutral Premier League fan, what's the first thing they associate Southampton FC with. Honestly, better be prepared not to fret out hearing the replies as loss or poor performers or something similar.
After all, if Southampton's current situation isn't alarming, nobody knows whose is. Having lost 23 games out of 28 now, the Saints firmly compete with Derby County's worst season ever.
And hey, don't get carried by a marginally improved Saints performance at Anfield recently.
Know why? With this 1-3 loss, Southampton has hit another season low. This time, the tally of 5 consecutive losses in all competitions combined.
But in a Southampton camp, one can expect everything except hopelessness. Call it their virtue or flaw, their optimistic approach sets the club and their fanbase apart from others.
Recently, another demonstration of this was given by Saints defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis post loss. Though a bit disappointed with the result, the defensive leader motivated the squad for the upcoming Wolves game next.
As quoted by the Daily Echo, Harwood-Bellis said: "There have been some games where it wasn't how it was out there today. Hopefully we can build on it and put out a similar performance next week and get some points (against Wolves)."
Now, if you are wondering why such emphasis on the Wolves matchday this early, here's a reality check.
Out of Southampton's remaining 10 Premier League games, only two can be listed as winnable by some means. And of them, one is the upcoming one against Wolves, and the other is the penultimate matchday against relegation rivals Leicester.
Know what that means? A final two opportunities for Southampton to get ahead of Derby's 11 points total. If not, be burdened with the undesirable tally forever.
Honestly, the Saints have nothing to compete for except for pride, but will they be able to keep it high? Let's see.
