At the weekend, Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu made his first Premier League start of the season for Southampton. The striker played well, making many great touches and showcasing his skills by weaving his way out of sticky situations.

However, Onuachu's first Premier League start was cut short. Unfortunately, he was forced to be eliminated from the pitch by Russell Martin, who hooked him off after just over 50 minutes.

Now, Paul Onuachu faces a race against time to be fit for tonight's clash against Brighton.

Paul Onuachu does not appear to have a specific injury. As reported by Punch, the reason for Paul Onuachu's omission from the weekend's game against Liverpool appears to simply be fatigue.

As it stands, Onuachu has not missed any games due to his current injury concern. However, Russell Martin will hope that he is given the all-clear to play tonight's game.

When will Paul Onuachu return from injury?

Russell Martin is hopeful that Paul Onuachu will return to action as soon as possible. In fact, it is within the Saints boss' plans to include Paul Onuachu to some capacity in tonight's match against Brighton.

In his own words, Russell Martin said: "Paul's being assessed, so fingers crossed that big Paul will come through all right. It's not a bad injury at all, which is good news for us. He's been desperate to play so I'm pleased for him but now we need to try and get him on the pitch [tonight] if we can and if not as soon as we possibly can."

So, it looks like good news. Hopefully, Onuachu will return to action tonight, if not, it won't be much longer.

Who can replace Paul Onuachu at Southampton?

Martin was full of praise for Onuachu, claiming he was desperate to play and he made the most of his first Premier League start. Hopefully, he will not need to be replaced.

That said, if Onuachu is not available to start, then Adam Armstrong is the likelist striker to start. Also, Cameron Archer is available to play in this position.
