Hammers are in the market for reinforcements
West Ham have submitted a bid for Monaco midfielder Soungoutou Magassa.
Reports state that the offer is worth €17million plus €3m in add-ons.
The Hammers are looking to add two new midfielders before the transfer window closes, and have identified Magassa after submitting an improved offer for Southampton’s Mateus Fernandes earlier this week.
Any deal for Magassa is separate from West Ham’s pursuit of Fernandes, who is a more forward-thinking midfielder than the Frenchman.
The imminent departure of Edson Alvarez on loan to Fenerbahce has allowed West Ham to pursue other engine-room targets as Graham Potter looks to overhaul his options in the centre of the park.
Magassa, who has five caps for France, came through Monaco’s academy and made 31 appearances in all competitions last season.
The 21-year-old defensive midfielder would provide some much-needed energy in midfield after the Hammers were torn apart by a youthful Sunderland team last weekend.
West Ham have identified a number of midfield targets, and saw a £45m enquiry for Andrey Santos knocked back by Chelsea.
Potter has been clear that West Ham must recruit the right profile rather than rushing into any decisions.
However, with just over a week of the window left, the club needs to move decisively to ensure they get their targets through the door.
It’s been a frustrating summer for West Ham, with the club unable to spend as freely as they did last year.
The signings of Mads Hermansen, who Potter backed despite a difficult debut, and El Hadji Malick Diouf have been supplemented by the arrivals of free transfers Callum Wilson and Kyle Walker-Peters while Jean-Clair Todibo’s loan deal has been made permanent.
West Ham were beaten 3-0 by Sunderland last weekend, and will be looking for a reaction at home to Chelsea tonight.
