Renee Slegers is expecting to have contract talks with Arsenal soon after extending her unbeaten run as interim manager.
Since replacing Jonas Eidevall, who resigned in October, Slegers has won 10 of her 11 matches in charge, leading Arsenal to the top of their Women’s Champions League group after beating Bayern Munich 3-2 at Meadow Park.
Little has been given away as to whether the club plans to keep her in charge, but she has now revealed she is expecting an update soon.
She said: “I am sure there will be communication with the club, but for now I am going to take a break.
“We had two objectives for this block. it was try to be in striking distance in the WSL and we climbed one spot, and qualify for quarter finals and if we can win the group.
“We are successful with both, which is very strong, but now it has been very intense.
“I am just really happy that we got this win today, we topped the group which is a big performance for the team and the club. There are a lot of challenges we had to overcome as a team. We need the break.”
Slegers added that she has enjoyed her time in charge despite the intensity of the job.
She continued: “It has been very intense. It is a big club with big players, great players, great resources, and there was already such a good foundation but I have learned a lot about what this role is in a club like Arsenal.
“I have enjoyed it, I have enjoyed working with the players and the rest of the staff. I just want to highlight the rest ofthe staff because I am usually sitting here and talking to [the media] but there is so much work that goes on behind the scenes.”
