Bristol City will be hoping to challenge for promotion from the Championship next season.

It was another inconsistent campaign for the Robins this season as they finished 11th in the table, but a run of just two defeats in the final 10 games has given supporters plenty of hope going into the summer.

No player epitomised City's improvement in the latter stages of the season more than winger Anis Mehmeti, who has endured mixed fortunes at Ashton Gate since making the move from Wycombe Wanderers in January 2023.

Mehmeti struggled to nail down a place in the team under former manager Nigel Pearson, but he was a regular starter after Liam Manning's arrival in November, and he became increasingly influential over the course of the season.

Anis Mehmeti has highest ceiling at Bristol City

FLW's Bristol City fan pundit Tom Sandy believes that Mehmeti is the player with the highest ceiling at the club, and he compared the 23-year-old to Arsenal and England winger Bukayo Saka.

"The player at Bristol City that I think has the highest ceiling right now, I'm going to go a little bit controversial and say Anis Mehmeti, the left-winger who signed from Wycombe a season and a half ago," Tom said.

"I think he's a really talented lad.

"When you look at the squad, I'd say Jason Knight is up there with a lot of potential, Josh Stokes who we've just signed from Aldershot, but it's too early to say if he's going to be a real talent, although I'm sure he will be.

"I'd have to go with Anis Mehmeti. "Last season he had just the four goals and one assist in the Championship, but the majority of them came towards the end of the season under Liam Manning. "He didn't really play much under Nigel Pearson, and you could see he was struggling for confidence as well, he's definitely a confidence kind of player. "You just want him taking players on really, and the system under Nigel Pearson didn't suit him. "It has definitely been a lot different under Liam Manning, and you can see that he has that spark and that special something that could really propel him to a higher level. "When I look at him, I'd probably compare him to someone like Bukayo Saka, he loves to cut inside but he can also go down the line. "He's a defender's nightmare because he can go either way and he'll hurt you.

"He's a tricky player, he's good in tight spaces, I think the sky is the limit for him because he really could get up there if he can pick up some form."

It is difficult to disagree with Tom that Mehmeti is a player with huge potential, and he is one of a number of talented young players currently starring at Ashton Gate, along with the likes of Jason Knight, Tommy Conway and Sam Bell.

Mehmeti initially found it tough to adapt to the Championship after his move from Wycombe, but there were encouraging signs that he is beginning to find his feet in the second half of the season, and he could be a crucial player for the Robins next term.

The challenge for Manning will be getting Mehmeti to perform consistently, and the winger must improve on his total of four goals and one assist from this season.

However, there is no doubt that Mehmeti's form will be key to City's promotion chances in the year ahead, and Robins supporters will be hoping there is much more to come from him.
