With the international break underway, FC Barcelona have as many as 14 players away representing their respective national teams.

Prior to the break, the Catalans were held to a 1-1 draw by Rayo Vallecano in La Liga, and thus, the team will be eager to bounce back strongly once they return to action in two weeks.

Six new faces in training

In the meantime, preparations continued as per usual, but given the large number of absentees due to international duty, there were quite a few players from La Masia called up to train with the Barcelona senior squad today.

Indeed, according to Mundo Deportivo, apart from the regular youth call-ups – Jofre Torrents, Toni Fernandez, Guille Fernandez, and Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernández (midfielder, 17), six new faces were asked to join up.

Orian Goren (holding midfielder, 16), Nil Teixidor (right-back, 17), Pol Bernabeu (left-back, 17), Hafiz Gariba (centre-back, 18), Pedro Villar (midfielder, 17) and new arrival Oriol Pallas (attacking midfielder, 18) all trained with the first team today.

Goren is an exciting talent who recently signed a new contract with Barcelona. Meanwhile, Pallas only joined the club this past Monday, signing from arch-rivals Espanyol’s youth academy.

Along with the ten academy talents, seven first-team players trained: Joan Garcia, Wojciech Szczesny, Alejandro Balde, Eric Garcia, Marc Casado, Marc Bernal and Gerard Martin.

Gavi, recovering from right-knee discomfort that kept him out in Vallecas, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen, sidelined after back surgery, did not take part.

The training session took place without Hansi Flick, who attended the annual Spanish Football Coaches Committee meeting at Las Rozas, where he received the trophy recognising him as the best coach of last season.

As a result, training was overseen instead by his assistants Marcus Sorg, Toni Tapalovic and Heiko Westermann.
