Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez won’t be available for selection in Sunday’s crucial showdown against Lazio.
The two clubs will clash heads in San Siro in the penultimate round of Serie A. Both sides will be desperate for a victory, as the Nerazzurri are still hoping to pip Napoli for the Scudetto, while the Aquile are aiming to seize the fourth Champions League spot.
According to Sky Sport Italia via FcInterNews, Simone Inzaghi will be without Martinez who is still struggling with muscle fatigue. The Argentinian was last seen in the epic second leg against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final where he contributed with a goal and an assist.
On the other hand, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, David Frattesi and Benjamin Pavard are all pushing for timely recoveries. The trio worked separately in training on Thursday, but the source expects them to earn call-ups for the weekend clash. It remains to be seen if any of them would be fit enough to challenge for a starting role.
The report also names six Inter players who, barring any late twists, will definitely be in Inzaghi’s starting lineup. The first is Yann Sommer who will reclaim his spot between the sticks from Josep Martinez. At the back, Francesco Acerbi is the only automatic starter, while the two other spots remain up for grabs.
Federico Dimarco is a lock for the left wingback role, and the same goes for Hakan Calhanoglu and Nicolo Barella in the middle of the park. Finally, the source tips Marcus Thuram to start, while the identity of his attacking partner remains uncertain. Mehdi Taremi, Marko Arnautovic and Joaquin Correa are all vying for a spot.
