Manchester United fans are reportedly fearful of missing out on tickets for away European matches because of cost-cutting measures implemented by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Since Ratcliffe assumed control of United’s football operations in February, the INEOS billionaire has enforced certain measures geared towards reducing operating costs at the club, to ensure compliance with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

INEOS cancelled the corporate cards of senior executives, made up to 250 staff redundant and also cancelled some of the perks United employees used to enjoy during Wembley trips.

It was previously stated that some of the austerity measures introduced by Ratcliffe left a section of insiders dismayed.

The Daily Mail now report that Ratcliffe’s cost-cutting policies have sparked concerns among fans about potentially missing out on sought-after tickets for European away matches.

The news outlet reveals, “The club usually make supporters collect in the host country but tickets for the game in Porto last week were sent by email as part of efforts to save money, raising concerns over touting and fans gaming the system.”

“Tickets for United’s matches in Europe are balloted by number of credits, with one given for each game attended. The ticket must be scanned in order for the supporter to receive the credit.”

“But without collections, some are fearful fans will buy a seat for an away Europa League or Champions League game with no intention of going, instead passing it on to another supporter – possibly at an inflated price – so they can retain the credit. Confidential understands the issue has been raised with United.”

The newspaper adds that United’s upcoming Europa League clash against Fenerbahce sold out to fans with three credits after a decision not to hold a collection in Porto.

There was an expectation that this would go down to zero but United are poised to request fans to pick up their tickets in Istanbul.

Additionally. it’s understood that United are not happy with Jose Mourinho’s side after they reduced United’s ticket allocation for the match.

The Red Devils raised the issue with UEFA and had some little success as their allocation was slightly increased. However, it still falls short of the minimum five per cent requirement.

United’s clash vs. Fenerbahce at The Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium is scheduled to take place on October 24.
