Danny Röhl has steered the blue half of the Steel City towards defensive reinforcements in the early stages of this transfer window.

Picking up left-back Max Lowe and goalkeeper Ben Hamer as free agents, and then agreeing a deal to sign Angers right-back Yan Valery, have clearly shown where the German's priorities lie at this stage of the summer.

With some more bodies at the back, attention has turned to the more advanced areas of the pitch. Ingelsson, an attacking midfielder, was linked with the Owls by Wednesday blogger Matt Brown, and then by the Sheffield Star.

The Hansa Rostock midfielder is said to have left the club as a free agent, despite his deal not expiring until the summer of 2026, because the German club's recent relegation from the Bundesliga 2 has rendered his contract invalid, as per the Star.

The 26-year-old is believed to be open to a move to the English second tier, and talks over a deal that would bring him to Hillsborough look to be advancing.

Svante Ingelsson agrees Sheffield Wednesday deal

Swedish outlet Aftonbladet has reported that the former Udinese player has agreed terms with the Owls and that he will be announced as a new member of Röhl's side this Friday.

If Ingelsson was to join Wednesday, he would become one of a number of players from his country to have played for the club.

One of the more notable Swedes to have played for Wednesday is Rolan Nilsson. He managed Ingelsson during the attacking midfielder's time playing in the youth ranks of the Swedish national team. He made 14 appearances for their under-21 side.

What Svante Ingelsson could offer Sheffield Wednesday

The Owls' two best creative outlets last season were Barry Bannan and Will Vaulks. The latter has moved on to Oxford United this summer, while the former has agreed new terms with the club.

According to Sofascore, they both created eight big chances last season - the joint most of any Wednesday player - in 42 and 34 league appearances, respectively.

They weren't a team that was renowned for it's attacking firepower last season, but, even still, Ingelsson provided more assists than the two of them (four), and created more big chances than them too (10). The only Owl to directly help a teammate more times than the Swede did for Hansa was Anthony Musaba (five).

He is listed as a player that primarily plays through the middle of the pitch. However, in the Bundesliga 2 last time out, he primarily appeared on the left-hand side of the midfield for Hansa.

Wednesday could do with a player like Ingelsson

There wasn't anyone who you could point at in the 35-year-old's squad that you could bank on to be the one that was going to create opportunities for those around them.

Could this be put down to the general quality of the team, and the fact that they were so often on the back foot? Possibly. But having that outlet, that spark plug, someone who's going to make something happen for someone else; that's what this team is currently missing.
