The Star have reported that the 30-year-old is scheduled to return to the Wednesday squad after missing their last two fixtures, one either side of the international break, with personal factors coupled with a desire to manage his workload after a minor knock seeing him miss out.

In his absence, Wednesday recorded a 2-1 win away to Coventry City prior to the international break but were defeated 2-0 at home to Burnley on Saturday, so his return will be a timely boost for Danny Rohl's side as they look to get back on track against Swansea City.

Windass had made a bright start to the season and started seven of their opening eight league games, scoring in wins against Plymouth Argyle and West Brom, so his much-anticipated return will be a huge boost for the Owls.

Windass has proven to be a hugely influential figure for Sheffield Wednesday since joining the club in 2020, and it's clear that Rohl wants him available for selection as soon as possible.

The 30-year-old recently became a father, which has meant he's been unavailable for their last two games, but the clash with Swansea City provides the perfect opportunity to return to the fold.

Speaking to The Star, Owls boss Rohl said: "It looks good. He will train tomorrow, and he is available against Swansea. That is my information at the moment. What is important is that we use the two training sessions - with the fast turnaround, it is not so much training - but we make them all ready.

“Then we will put the best 11 on the pitch and we know there is always a bench that can hold the quality and we can increase the intensity. This is good for me to know, it is what we need and it is the challenge this week with a Tuesday, Friday games.”

A home fixture against a Swansea City side who are winless in their last four games and have to make the long trip from Wales to South Yorkshire after playing Blackburn on Saturday will be targeted as a winnable game for the Owls, and Windass' return has come at the perfect time for Rohl's side.

Swansea City clash could be the perfect springboard for Sheffield Wednesday

The Owls are currently 18th in the Championship, a far healthier state than they were at this time last year, but after the way they finished the 2023/24 campaign, some would have expected them to be slightly higher up the table at this point.

However, a clash at home with Swansea City followed by fixtures against 23rd place Portsmouth and an inconsistent Watford side provides them with a good chance to pick up some points and move up the league table.

With the Steel City derby against Sheffield United in just a few weeks, it's important that the Owls build some momentum ahead of a fixture with their biggest rivals, and you feel as if the next couple of weeks will be pivotal for Rohl's side.

Windass returning to the fold is a big boost for Wednesday, and everybody at the club will be hoping that his return will coincide with a good run of results that can help move them up the table.
