Fresh reports from Mike McGrath at The Telegraph have revealed that six Owls players have shown their desire to leave the club after the latest round of late wages, while the club are also due to pay two separate Championship clubs over transfer deals.

As the Sheffield Star reported after players were not paid their wages for June on time, with it remaining true that only some have received their payments for May, there is an option for them to tender a notice period.

After two late payments, which has been the case for the Owls squad, FIFA rules allow players to trigger a 15-day notice period. Some players have still not been paid for May, as well as June, with the Sheffield newspaper noting that "several players" were intending to hand in their letters of notice.

The Telegraph has since reported that the number of players who have set the wheels in motion for an exit from Hillsborough is six, though their identity remains unknown.

Sheffield Wednesday miss payments for two recruits

To pile on the misery, the reports from the national newspaper also revealed that a duo of Owls players have been the subject of missed payments related to their transfers.

It is understood that Norwich City are owed money for centre-back Akin Famewo, after a payment deadline was missed again last month. The 26-year-old joined Wednesday in 2022, and sees his contract expire this summer after playing 73 for the club, with the club still owing parts of the original deal.

The other issue relates to Shea Charles. The Southampton midfielder spent the 2024/25 term on loan in the Steel City, and played 43 league games for Danny Rohl's team.

Reports suggest a loan fee and his salary from last season have not yet been paid, despite the 21-year-old Manchester City academy product returning to his parent club this summer. Charles managed six goal involvements from a deep central-midfield position in his season-long stint at Wednesday, but his successful spell has now ended on a sour note.

News of a takeover has died down over recent days, with the looming issues of two concurrent EFL embargoes hanging over the club as Dejphon Chansiri remains in his post as chairman.

Highly-rated German coach Rohl is set to exit the Owls before the start of the upcoming campaign, while no pre-season friendlies have been announced and training has begun in mangled fashion as a result of Wednesday's training ground not yet being free to use after improvement work ran over schedule.
