Sheffield United will be looking to mount another promotion push next season after they were beaten in the Championship play-off final in May.

The Blades comfortably finished third at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, but Chris Wilder was ultimately unable to take them back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, as his side were beaten by Sunderland at Wembley.

Former Reading and Hull City boss Ruben Selles was appointed to replace Wilder in the dugout at Bramall Lane earlier this summer, and he will have a few new faces to choose from against Bristol City on the opening day of the Championship season.

Ehije Ukaki and Mihail Polendakov have joined the club from Botev Plovdiv and Septemvri Sofia respectively, while Nottingham Forest defender Tyler Bindon and Aston Villa winger Louie Barry have moved to South Yorkshire on loan ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Selles will no doubt be keen to further strengthen his squad before the transfer deadline on September 1st, so we asked our Sheffield United fan pundit who he would like to see sign for the club.

Sheffield United urged to sign Liverpool winger

Football League World's Sheffield United fan pundit, Jimmy, made it clear that he would like to see a new right-winger brought in before the end of the transfer window.

"A realistic signing for Sheffield United? Right, well I think we need a couple of positions still - we certainly need a right-back, we do need another centre-half if I'm being honest, but a position that we are lacking is also right-wing in my opinion," Jimmy said.

"Andre Brooks has done a decent job there this pre-season, was inconsistent last year but didn't really get a clear run in the team, but I think somebody there would really compliment what we have done so far with the squad."

Brooks made 22 appearances in the Championship for the Blades under Chris Wilder last term, but he only delivered five goal contributions, so an upgrade in that position before the end of the summer transfer window could make a real difference next season for Ruben Selles.

"I think that would just really get us on the right track as to what we are looking to do this season.

"Ben Doak would be my shout. I would love to get Ben Doak on loan from Liverpool. He had a great start at Middlesbrough last season before he got injured, and I think that would be a very realistic signing for our right-wing option.

"Him on the right, Louie Barry on the left, Callum O'Hare down the middle, Gus Hamer just behind, Tyrese Campbell up front - that is a top Championship attacking lineup for me, so yeah, Doak is who I would look to go for."

Doak would give Selles options out wide

If Sheffield United can complete a deal to sign Doak on loan from Liverpool before the end of the transfer window, it would give Selles plenty of potentially game-changing options in wide areas.

Ehije Ukaki, Jefferson Caceres and Christian Nwachukwu, who were signed by the Blades using their owners' AI-driven recruitment model, could potentially be wildcards on both sides of the pitch, while Barry, Brooks and Doak would give Selles proven EFL talent to work with on either flank.
