Sheffield United have one eye on the summer transfer window amid their promotion push
Sheffield United are are said to be accelerating their pursuit of former Norwich City star Gabriel Sara ahead of the summer.
According to Turkish outlet Fanatik, the Galatasaray forward is attracting interest from the Blades, with the club planning with a view towards Premier League football.
Chris Wilder’s side are in the mix for a top two spot in the Championship this year, and could make an immediate return to the top flight after relegation in 2024.
Sara joined the Super Lig club last year from Norwich and has contributed two goals and five assists from 23 league appearances so far this season.
It has been claimed that Sheffield United are accelerating their pursuit of the Brazilian ahead of the summer market.
Sara made the switch from Norwich last summer in a deal worth €18 (£15.1) million, via the BBC, after a strong campaign in the Championship.
He has since become a key figure for Galatasaray, and has also played nine times for the club in their Europa League run, where he has provided one assist.
It is understood that Sheffield United were keen on making a move for the 25-year-old last summer but were unable to do so due to their financial situation.
But a change in owner has brought greater stability behind the scenes, and now planning is reportedly being put in place for an attempt to sign him from Galatasaray this summer.
Sheffield United are currently second in the Championship table, just two points behind leaders Leeds United.
The gap to third-place Burnley is also two points, meaning it is far from guaranteed that the Blades will be automatically promoted to the top flight this year, with nine games remaining.
It’s likely the pursuit of Sara will hinge on the club’s ability to offer Premier League football next season.
Up next for Sheffield United is a clash against local rivals Sheffield Wednesday on 16 March in a 12.30pm kick-off.
Sara has a solid, if unspectacular, start to life in Turkey, with his recent form taking a bit of a dip.
If he is open to a move, then coming back to English football might be a solid option if he’s to get back to his very best given how well he performed for Norwich.
Sheffield United are obviously keen and now should have the money to spend on a deal like this.
