Sheffield United sign Republic of Ireland international midfielder Molloy | OneFootball

Sheffield United have completed the signing of Republic of Ireland international midfielder Ellen Molloy.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blades this evening.

The 20-year-old joins Sheffield United from SSE Airtricity League Women’s Premier Division club Wexford Youths. Molloy was picked up by Wexford Youths in 2019 and she made her senior debut for the club the following year.

On the international stage, Molloy has been in and around the Republic of Ireland senior side for the last four years. She has been capped by her country on six occasions to date.

After joining Sheffield United, Molloy said “I’m delighted, I can’t really believe it to be honest. I love the city, I got a really good feel for the club and everyone involved so I’m really excited to get started.”

Sheffield United head coach Ash Thompson also commented on the deal. He said “We’ve worked really hard to bring Ellen in and we’re really excited about what she’s going to add to the squad. We’ve watched her closely and she’s dynamic, has two great feet, can both score and create.

“You only have to look at what she’s achieved in Ireland to know we’re bringing in a really good player with a lot of potential and someone we think the fans will love watching.”

Molloy becomes Sheffield United’s eighth signing of the summer transfer window.
