Leeds United have made multiple offers to sign Gustavo Hamer from Sheffield United this summer
Leeds United are unlikely to strike an agreement with Sheffield United for Gustavo Hamer this summer.
According to Football Insider, the Blades are unwilling to do any business with a promotion rival.
It was previously reported by The Star that the Whites had submitted a £10 million bid for the player that also involved Joel Piroe going the other way, having had a £13 million bid rejected earlier in the month.
Hamer joined Sheffield United last summer from Coventry City in a deal worth £15 million, according to The Athletic.
He has cemented himself as a key figure for Chris Wilder’s side, already contributing two goals and one assist from their opening three league games of the new campaign (all stats from Fbref).
Leeds have been looking to bolster their midfield options ahead of this evening’s transfer deadline.
The transfer window is set to close at 11pm, but the Yorkshire outfit will not be agreeing a deal with their rivals for Hamer.
It is understood that Sheffield United have no interest in cashing in on the Brazilian, amid reports from Alan Nixon that an £18 million asking price had been set.
The Blades are reluctant to potentially strengthen a rival for Premier League promotion, ending Leeds’ chances of completing a deal for the playmaker.
This will force the Whites to move onto other targets, but it remains to be seen if any deals will be completed in the final hours of the summer market.
Daniel Farke will be hoping to improve his team ahead of a promotion push this campaign, but time is running out to finalise any agreements.
Leeds have already added the likes of Joe Rothwell, Largie Ramazani and Jayden Bogle to their squad this transfer window, as well as securing a permanent move for Joe Rodon.
But they have lost key players like Georginio Rutter, Crysencio Summerville, Glen Kamara and Archie Gray.
It was always going to be difficult to convince Sheffield United to part ways with Hamer this summer, especially so late in the window.
If Leeds had been promoted to the Premier League last season, or even if they had made this attempt earlier this summer, then maybe they could’ve gotten a deal over the line.
But Sheffield United are now in a stronger financial position where they don’t need to sell, and they will be aiming to compete with Leeds for promotion this term.
