Leeds United Women welcome Stockport County Ladies to the Bannister Prentice Stadium in their first FA WNL Division One North match of 2025.
The Whites sit third in the standings, looking to reclaim top spot in the league should results go their way this weekend.
Simon Wood’s side finished the last calendar year in fine form with seven wins from eight matches but defeat last time out against AFC Fylde is motivating the players to get back to the best, according to Shauna Legge.
“We know we are better than that,” explained the defender. “We can’t dwell on things too much. It doesn’t define us and it doesn’t define our season, so we just move on to the next one and concentrate on that. I am looking forward to picking up more points.
“We have got quite a few leaders in the team, quite a lot of experience from all different places, so it didn’t take us too long to get around each other and sort of gee ourselves up ready for New Year and concentrating more on that really.
“It was quite refreshing to see everyone get around each other and try to focus on positive things rather than dwelling on negatives.”
In the return fixture against Stockport, the Whites were denied all three points after a last-gasp Hatters’ equaliser, with Legge believing the squad took a lot from the match despite the frustrating final moments.
“I think individually and as a team we have learnt from it and tried to move forward as in securing the game and making better decisions, playing a bit more cleverly towards the back end of the game when we are in front.
“They are a good side, they were quite solid when we played them at the beginning of the season but like I say we have learnt from mistakes or things that have happened.
“Week in, week out at Garforth the fans are there and they are cheering us on. They are as excited as ever so we just want to do the job for them.
“Hearing them while we are playing and winning and when we score is a massive help and it just gets you going. They are really important for us and we love to see them there every week so we really appreciate them and long may the support continue.”
