Lazio got back on track by beating surprise Serie A leaders Torino in a 3-2 thriller with Matteo Guendouzi, Boulaye Dia and Tijjani Noslin on target.

The Granata went into this weekend as the top team in Italy, still unbeaten with three wins and two draws, despite a midweek Coppa Italia elimination by Empoli. Zanos Savva and Perr Schuurs were out of action, with Vanja Milinkovic-Savic pulling out in the warm-up. The Aquile missed Samuel Gigot with Patric only fit for the bench after the midweek Europa League win over Dynamo Kyiv.

Lazio took the early lead when Nuno Tavares burst down the left and pulled back from the by-line for Matteo Guendouzi to drill through a sea of legs from just inside the penalty area. It was the fourth assist in as many Serie A games for the ex-Arsenal left-back.

Toro came close on the stroke of half-time, as Ivan Provedel flew to palm away the Ivan Ilic half-volley on a knocked-down cross, then also smothered Duvan Zapata’s follow-up header.

Che Adams came on to add extra attacking potential, but Paleari had to make two big saves straight away on the Taty Castellanos scorcher and Alessio Romagnoli from point-blank range on the resulting corner.

Tonny Sanabria risked more than a yellow card for a clumsy two-footed tackle on Guendouzi, saved only by getting the ball first, and Adams tested Provedel from distance.

However, Lazio doubled their lead when Gustav Isaksen pulled back from the right and Mattia Zaccagni left it for Boulaye Dia to sweep home from 12 yards.

Nikola Vlasic got his first appearance of the season after injury issues, while Paleari kept Torino in the game with another save one-on-one as Castellanos sprung the offside trap from Guendouzi’s through ball.

Torino did finally get back into it with Che Adams scoring his third goal in as many games, as Ilic and Vlasic combined down the left to set up his control and snooker shot finish from the edge of the box.

Granata coach Paolo Vanoli was sent off for dissent and Adams fired another attempt just over, but Tijjani Noslin scored within 30 seconds of coming off the bench. He spread it down the left and was ready to meet the Matias Vecino assist from close range.

It still wasn’t over, as moments later Adam Masina knocked down a free kick for the acrobatic Saul Coco volley from 15 yards, which looped over a helpless Provedel. However, Torino fell to their first Serie A defeat.

Guendouzi 8 (L), Dia 60 (L), Adams 67 (T), Noslin 89 (L), Coco 92 (T)
