Napoli fought back from the Randal Kolo Muani debut goal to inflict the first Serie A defeat of the season on Juventus with Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa and Romelu Lukaku.

The Bianconeri threw Kolo Muani straight into the starting XI on his debut just days after the loan move from Paris Saint-Germain was completed, dropping Dusan Vlahovic, with Arek Milik, Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal long-term absentees. Leonardo Spinazzola came in for Matias Olivera after the 3-2 victory away to Atalanta, with Alessandro Buongiorno on the bench for the first time since a back injury in December.

The visitors had a huge chance on six minutes when Khephren Thuram’s slide-rule pass released Kenan Yildiz down the right, his dummy sent Spinazzola to ground, but Alex Meret made a desperate save one-on-one.

Matteo Politano’s volley skimmed the crossbar from the edge of the area and Nico Gonzalez drilled wide at the other end, while Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa’s header was over from a short corner.

The deadlock was broken by the debutant, as after a poor Stanislav Lobotka clearance, Anguissa lunged in to stop Teun Koopmeiners shooting from the edge of the area, but the ricochet went into the path of Kolo Muani to volley in from eight yards.

Politano fired inches over the bar from a dangerous free kick, but straight after the restart Michele Di Gregorio made a sensational save to claw the Romelu Lukaku header off the line with one hand on the David Neres cross.

Napoli remained dangerous in the air and equalised when Politano stood up a cross for Anguissa’s header from eight yards to draw level. Once again, his celebration was dedicated to little Daniele, the Napoli fan who died from a long illness earlier this month.

Andrea Cambiaso made a decisive deflection soon after to send the Politano volley over the bar on Spinazzola’s assist, while Federico Gatti’s arm was in a natural position when struck by Lukaku’s deflected volley.

Napoli did receive a spot-kick moments later, as Lukaku sent McTominay through to be brought down by the clumsy Manuel Locatelli sliding tackle. Lukaku waited for Di Gregorio to pick a side before rolling the penalty down the centre to turn the game around completely with his 200th career goal in Europe’s top five leagues.

Dusan Vlahovic was only introduced for the final nine minutes and had very little service in that time. Instead, Napoli threatened another with Douglas Luiz risking an own goal on the Giovanni Simeone pull-back and last-gasp Wes McKennie block on Cyril Ngonge.

Juventus suffer their first Serie A defeat of the season, but have fumbled an incredible 17 points from leading situations.
