Former Manchester United and Man City goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel had a word of praise for the Inter supporters who travelled to the Etihad for Wednesday’s Champions League match, as he felt they were the only fans making noise in what he described as a ‘dead’ stadium.
Inter came away with a well-earned 0-0 draw against Pep Guardiola’s side on Wednesday night, but the atmosphere inside the ground was somewhat quieter than expected.
Manchester City and their supporters have often been the butt of jokes about small crowds, empty seats and a quiet atmosphere from fans in the UK.
Schmeichel felt that they lived up to their reputation on Wednesday night.
“I love good football and I like excitement from the crowd. It was dead, the Etihad today was absolutely dead,” Schmechel said during his post-match chat with CBS.
“The only people we could hear were the Inter supporters, who were quite good, but there’s no atmosphere in the Etihad today.”
