Santiago Gimenez revealed the emotions he felt after scoring his first goal as an AC Milan player, and previewed his return to Feyenoord in midweek.

Milan were made to battle hard for the three points against Empoli at the Stadio Carlo Castellani, but they did eventually emerge 2-0 winners tonight after what was a dramatic second half.

The first bit of controversy came when Fikayo Tomori was sent off for a second yellow card when the man he fouled looked to be offside, then Marianucci was given a straight red not long after for lashing out at Santiago Gimenez.

Rafael Leao was one of three substitutes at half-time along with Christian Pulisic and Gimenez, and the American set him up for a header to open the scoring. Then, the same assister helped the Mexican striker get off the mark in Italy with a brilliant curling shot.

Gimenez spoke to DAZN after the full-time whistle to analyse what was a very positive evening for him personally and for the team, with MilanNews relaying his comments.

You got your first Serie A goal…

“I am really grateful to the team. In Serie A it is always difficult, right? We entered well and we managed to make an impact.”

Now on Wednesday you return to Feyenoord…

“So many emotions. Feyenoord has given me so much, it’s like a family.”
