Salomon Rondon has now signed for his 13th club.

The former Newcastle United striker will be playing in La Liga next season.

Having just played for Mexican club Pachuca CF in the FIFA Club World Cup, Salomon Rondon moving to Real Oviedo, who have just been promoted to the Spanish top tier. The club releasing an official announcement (see below) on Thursday.

Also playing for Pachuca alongside Rondon, was Kenedy, who back in the day was also on loan with the Venezuelan striker, when Rafa Benitez was in charge at St James’ Park.

Salomon Rondon interviewed back in February 2020 with The Athletic and asked about having left Newcastle United the previous summer:

“It’s about decisions and it wasn’t my decision.

“To be honest, last season was the best I’ve ever had.

“Not just because I scored goals, but because everything around me was so right, from the school of my children, to the city, the people, my family being happy. I was working really hard in every training session to be in the team and I did everything properly for that. I was playing. Everything was perfect.”

Real Oviedo official announcement – 3 July 2025:

‘Real Oviedo and Pachuca have reached an agreement for the loan of Salomón Rondón until June 30, 2026.

The 35-year-old footballer was born on September 16, 1989, in Caracas, Venezuela. After making his debut in his home country, the forward joined UD Las Palmas to represent the Canary Islands side for two seasons in the Second Division. His strong performances drew Málaga CF’s attention. There, Rondon was an important player, scoring a total of 25 goals over two seasons in the top flight of Spanish football.

After his time in Spain, the Venezuelan played for major clubs such as Rubin Kazan, Zenit, West Bromwich Albion, Newcastle, CSK, Everton, and River Plate, among others. His outstanding performance at club level is in line with his prominence in the national team, with which he has established himself as one of the greatest Venezuelan players of all time. Over 100 appearances and a total of 47 goals make him an absolute legend.

Now, after two seasons at Pachuca where he scored 36 goals in 70 matches, the striker arrives in the Asturian capital to become the second signing in the transfer market and improve the attacking side.
